After a week of hard work and a lot of time, the new site is finally completed. We have received so much excitement towards the contest in the past few months, registration over tripled for our current contest!! Worldwide is no longer a goal, it’s a reality with contestants representing almost ever continent of the world. How about a community where contestants can interact and learn from one another? Got that too! The Portal is the perfect place for contestants to learn with one another, and share the overall excitement of the contest. Our leaders and a great overall day

What a big day today. The market came storming back on heavy volume and I am happy to say, accumulation day!! Whether this is the bottom or not is still to be determined, but with such a big change of events, our leader board has some new faces. As of now our top five are:

Fundamental Technician – Ailun Zhan (China)

Efex 77 – Fernando Moncayo (Ecuador, South America)

MDZ – Mark Zimmer (MI, USA)

Stocktrading 101 – Myself (MI, USA)

Dtucker – Dan Tucker (USA)

Two huge moves today came from Ailun Zhan and Fernando Moncayo. Ailun has bet heavily against oil, and though Wilma is brewing up in the Pacific, his bet has paid huge so far. Ailun controls a very sizable amount of XLE puts that expire in December. Our other major mover today, Fernando, pushed his portfolio nearly 27% higher after his calls gained some major ground. Companies Fernando holds calls in are Home Depot, Whirlpool, and Amazon.com. Lastly, on the consistent rise is Dan Tucker, a veteran to our contests, who is trading very well thus far showing a 4%+ portfolio gain overall. Congratulations to these leaders!

With the market in its current condition, you never know what to expect, and I would also like to congratulate all of our contestants who have taken the initiative to trade thus far. The contest is only getting more exciting, and with so much movement going on in the leader board, it will continue to grow. I have gotten the chance to hear some feedback from contestants, and it is great to see so much excitement towards trading.

Immediate Issues Resolved

With the contest now up and running, we have found a few issues that have been resolved or should be resolved:

Complications logging in and joining – This for the most part has been taken care of, but if you find that the contest, Richdad III, is not listed under “My Games”, then you have not actually joined yet. Go to search for contests, and search Richdad III (iii), and join this way. Make sure to that your trades are done under the game you desire, as it can get confusing managing a couple different contests at once.

People joining who have not registered – I made the error of creating the contest password free, and as a result there have been extra contestants in the contest that are unregistered. I will post up the list I have here, and if you find that your id is under this list and you registered, please notify me so we can update the database. All contestants that joined without registering are NOT eligible for prize money, and know that we will check all prize winners at the contest end with our database for registration verification. Here are the prizes that are up for grabs in our latest contest "Richdad 3" There are 43 of us participating, so I wanted to be the first to wish everyone the best of luck. With a total of $150.00 raised for the contest, the disbursement is as follows.

Opening Week Giveaway

There is no purchase necessary, but you must be registered for Richdad III to be eligble to win. Richdad Contests Money Disbursement

Here is how money will be disbursed for this and all future Richdad contests. Contestants must join prior to the contest start date (October 3rd) to be considered for cash prizes. People joining AFTER this date will still be allowed to take place in the contest, but they will not be considered for cash prizes.

-The top 10% will win cash prizes in each contest.

-Each “prize winner” will receive 50% more than the “prize winner” directly below them in the rankings.

Here is an example…

-Lets assume there are 50 contestants so 5 "winners" (50 X 10%)
1=5.0625
2=3.375
3=2.25
4=1.5
5=1

I got these numbers by assigning a number one for the last place (in our example that’s 5th place) and then by multiplying by %150 for the next place (or 1.5) each time.

(1 X 1.5=1.5 1.5 X 1.5=2.25 2.25 X 1.5=3.375 and finally 3.375 X 1.5=5.0625)

I then take all these number and add them together for a total of *13.1875*

Here we assume that we raised $500.00. We take 500 and divide by 13.1875 to get *37.91* (500/13.1875 = $37.91)

And finally we take the key number of $37.91 and multiply it by the number behind each place to see how much money they win.

1st =$191.92 (5.0625 X 37.91)
2nd = $127.95 (3.375 X 37.91)
3rd = $85.30 (2.25 X 37.91)
4th = $56.87 (1.5 X 37.91)
5th = $37.91 (1 X 37.91)
________________
$499.95 (due to rounding, so give them each and extra cent)

The advantage to this formula is that it can be applied to all contests, no matter how many people take place or how much money is raised.

Registration Update

Registration for Richdad III is nearing the half way marker!! Though contestants can still register late, getting registered early insures you are trading in the contest opening day on (October 3rd, 2005). I am very proud to report that we already have 23 registered contestants and we are on way to break past 30!!! This is a huge accomplishment for the contest as it continues to grow in popularity. I want to say thank you to all those who added our contest blog in your forum signature and have kept our threads active in the Richdad forums. Look for a post later this week from Mark giving some information on how the prize money may be distributed. As always,

Private Forum for the Contest

Alright, thanks to Ravi, our last winner, we now have a private forum where we can all discuss the contest and more. Welcome to the Richdad3 official blog! As you probably know Richdad III is a trading contest sponsored by R3I, hosted by investopedia.com. Each contestant will recieve $100,000 in play money to start with, and through the course of the contest can grow their accounts by:

-trading stock
-shorting stock
-buying on margin
-trading options (NEW addition)

There is no experience necessary; whether you are a professional trader or just starting off, the contest is designed to help you either expand your current horizons, or start fresh and learn! The contest does not start till October 3rd, but getting yourself registered early is still important. You can trade through investopedia till the contest begins.

How to get yourself Registered:

1. Go to investopedia.com and register your stock simulator username (a link is given on the side of the blog).
2. Submit your registration email form (below)
3. Recieve contest password
4. Start trading on October 3rd!!

What about personal information? R3I does not need to know any personal information such as address, phone number, etc. until you are declared a winner. Prize winners will be contacted via email at the contest end. This setup was used for Richdad 2, and will be used for Richdad III; thank you.

Other Important Information:

The official list of prize money will not be released until the contest begins. R3I currently has $100 in prize money to be rewarded. If you would like information regarding how the prize money will be dispersed, please email Mark Zimmer for more information.

The trading rules can be found once you join the contest. Shorting, buying on margin, options, etc. are all going to be allowed for this contest. If you would like any of the rules to be better explained feel free to email me. We will be explaining the new rules on the blog later in September.
